Welcome! Meet Betty Alterman
As a Certified Mastectomy Fitter, I have witnessed many situations in which a patient comes in for a fitting following breast surgery (mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction) and is not aware of her insurance benefits. Every breast cancer patient is entitled to her insurance benefits for the following: a right and/or left breast prosthesis/external breast form; bras and post-op camisoles (used post-surgery to help with recovery and drain management); and (possibly) wigs.
I have helped survivors who endured surgery months—or sometimes even years—before her fitting session with me yet had only recently discovered that she had insurance benefits that would cover breast care products. Every payer has different benefits, including those who have Medicare, and it can be daunting to figure these out, especially when dealing with a new diagnosis.
My mission is two-fold: 1) to provide you with needed information to understand your benefits and 2) to help you find a specialty boutique that will improve the way you look and feel about yourself.
Understanding your insurance product benefits will have a huge impact on your recovery and self-image. Whether you were diagnosed 10 years ago, 10 months ago, or 10 days ago, you may have insurance benefits that will help you now; sadly, most patients never get this information from their medical providers.
